Uvuxeni (Good morning!)

Hi friends!

Welcome to my blog! I'm going to put my Twitter updating on pause for now since I realized that it doesn't allow for posting pictures and what fun is that? So here I am! Thanks for stopping by!

I'll have more to say about my work here in the next couple of days after I actually start, but first I thought you all might enjoy so pictures of my house and "neighborhood." My house is located in an old game reserve north of Johannesburg and right next to Kruger National Park. I'm about 45 minutes north of Agincourt, which is where I'll be working most days.

My house is this little yellow thing below. Things are a bit rustic outside, but it's pretty modern inside. I have clean, warm, running water, my own bathroom and kitchen with a fridge, toaster, and hotplate. The house is furnished with a bed, desk, dresser, and table, and I had a chance to load up on groceries by the airport on my way in. Who would have guessed that I would be able to find chard and leeks for cheap out here?!

And from my porch out back, I have an amazing view of the reserve and the animals that like to graze in my backyard.

Sorry for the pretty terrible wildlife photos. But frankly, after hearing my neighbor tell me about how monkeys ransacked her house (apparently they came in and ate all her foot, broke all of her picture frames, and pooped everywhere), I'm pretty set on keeping my safe distance! At least for a while. Tomorrow I have plans for a 5:30 am drive through an active game reserve, so hope for more guts on my part and a bit of luck spotting the big five (elephants, rhinos, cape buffalo, lions, and leopards -see http://www.bigbuckhunter.com/us/home/ for more info).

So on that note, good night for now...!

Hugs,
Nadia
